Dr. Joel Smelley Jr. is the Senior Pastor at Heatherwood Baptist Church.
Joel and his wife, Kimberly have been married since October 2006. God has blessed them with three girls; Lilly Kate, Gracie, and Avery. Together they enjoy entertaining in their home, playing games, and riding bikes.
Joel's greatest desire is to always be about Gospel multiplication for the glory of God. He has a central conviction that the Church, which is made up of individual believers, should live lives proclaiming, promoting, sharing, and living the Gospel in their everyday lives. Matthew 28:18-20 states that God has given us the Great Commission, which is to make disciples. Joel wants his life to make a difference in people's lives by helping them, leading them, pushing them to accomplish this mission together to the glory of God. Joel also has a strong desire to invest in and train the next generation of pastors and church leaders, and wants to be a part of multiplying churches through church planting.
Joel is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, South Eastern Theological Seminary, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout his ministry, Joel has served in Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
